What it is like
Jomtien is where most people who move to the area end up living. The beach runs for kilometres and it is flat, wide and walkable, which matters more than it sounds when you are here every day. Behind it sits the densest run of condo buildings in Pattaya, which is exactly why prices are reasonable. There is a market, a Tops, a 7-Eleven on most corners and enough restaurants that you could eat somewhere different every night for a year. The nightlife is a handful of relaxed bars rather than anything loud.
Who lives here: Retirees, families, long stayers and remote workers.

Is Jomtien better than Pattaya for a long stay?
For most people, yes. It is quieter, flatter and cheaper, and you can walk to the beach and back without thinking about it. Central Pattaya wins if you want shopping and hospitals on your doorstep.
Can I live here without a motorbike?
Easily. The beach road runs the length of the area with baht buses on it, and most buildings sit within a short walk of food and a shop.
Which end of Jomtien should I choose?
The north end near Rompho is busier and better served. The far south is quieter and cheaper but you will want transport. Tell us how you plan to spend your days and we will point you to the right stretch.
